5 Amazing Detox Baths
Did you know that detox baths are one of the easiest way to get rid of toxins from your body? There are a number of ways in which you can effectively help to cleanse your body of many unwanted nasty pollutants. Detox baths not only assist in eliminating chemicals, but also offer a wonderful relaxation experience by helping to calm the nervous system and restore your body to good health.
“Why do we need to detox?” In order for our body’s to remain as healthy as possible, it is essential to clear accumulated toxins before they begin to cause problems. Excess toxins can lead to a whole host of symptoms including weight gain, pain, inflammation, sensitivities to foods, metabolic disorders, digestive disorders, heart conditions, depression and a multitude of other debilitating conditions.
So in order to stay well and ‘fine tuned’, it is imperative to reduce the toxic load from the liver, kidneys and other major elimination organs (like the skin!) so they can continue to serve you well for years to come. Many of our patients take iodine to help the production of thyroid hormones or have heavy metal screening done for a fuller assessment. Detox baths are a great way to prepare the body and reduce the toxic burden before, during or after thyroid treatment.
Epsom Salts Detox Bath:
Add 1-2 cups of Epsom salts to your bath and sit back and relax. Epsom salts are rich in Magnesium sulfate, which draws toxins out of the skin. Great for thyroid and adrenal patients with tight sore muscles.
Ginger Detox Bath:
Add 1-2 tbsp grated ginger to a warm bath. This encourages circulation and sweating allowing toxins to be released through the skin. We also sweat out lots of fluid so drink lots of water when detoxing!
Lemon Detox Bath:
Add half a lemon to your bath but DO NOT SQUEEZE! This aims to soak up large amounts of chlorine from the tap water (sparing your skin and metabolism the extra toxic weight) and helps break down dead/unhealthy skin cells. A good trick to add to any bath, in combination with any other detox method too we think
Apple Cider Vinegar Bath:
Add 1/3 cup of apple cider vinegar to a full bath. This vinegar is great for cleansing and revitalising the insides of our body…. so allowing it to soak into the skin will help draw out those nasty toxins and help to reduce inflammation. Lots of home recipes for chemical-free shampoo includes apple cider vinegar with bicarp as a natural hair tonic, so do some head dunking while you’re in there!
Raw Oats Detox Bath:
Place 1 cup of oatmeal into an old stocking and secure firmly. Add this to the bath while its runs and allow to infuse. You can then leave it in and use it as a loofah! Not only a fantastic tried and true remedy for Eczema and skin conditions, the oats are wonderful for facilitating our natural detox processes.
NOTE: raw oats contain gluten, and some patients with food intolerance or Coeliac’s disease cannot tolerate them topically either.
