The SPRING CLEANSE debate

October 6, 2020September 30, 2020by Lucy Rose Clinicin Complementary Practices, General Knowledge, Hormones, Liver health, Mental Health, Nutrition, Sleep, Stress hormones, Thyroid, Thyroid Conditions, Weight LossTags allergy, degenerative diseases, detox, detoxification, diet, healthy eating, weight loss, weightloss

Do I? Don’t I? Will it even matter…. lots of people wonder if doing a Spring Cleanse is actually helpful, or just another marketing scheme.

Today let’s discuss if a Spring Detox is necessary, or just a waste of your time and money.

Do I need to DETOX??

Our body is constantly going through a process of natural detoxification with the greatest bulk of the work happening through the night as you sleep – between 9:00PM and 6:00AM.

In a perfect world, we would not need to do any extra detoxification, as the body has evolved to maintain itself quite nicely.

However, many people report benefits from doing a cleanse, whilst others actually felt much worse off for it!

Here’s a checklist to assess whether you could use a Spring cleanse:

  • Take any pharmaceutical medication: any prescriptions, panadol, low dose aspirin, contraception, etc.
  • Drink too much alcohol.
  • Exposed to EXHAUST fumes or SMOKE: Live near a busy road, walk along a road for exercise, take public transport, drive in busy traffic for more than 10 minutes daily.
  • Drink unfiltered tap water.
  • Eat processed or convenience foods: such as pasta bakes, pre-made sauces, canned foods, takeaways, ready made meals, etc.
  • Use make up and skin care products that contain xenoestrogens: Harmful ingredients include BPA (bisphenol A), Phthalates, Triclosan, Parabens, Sodium laureth sulfate (SLES).
  • Handle chemicals regularly: cleaning products, lab technicians, dental assistants, hairdressers, radiologists, mechanics, etc.
  • Use plastics, aluminum, or Teflon cookware and/or storage containers.

Is your SLEEP Pattern affecting your HORMONES?

Do you know that the best time to sleep to balance your hormones?

9-11pm is the time when the endocrine system’s homeostasis is adjusted and enzymes are replenished. It is recommended to sleep at this time so the body can conserve energy for the following day. Are you asleep by now?

11pm-1am is the time of the Gall Bladder.

1-3am is the time of the Liver and a time when the body should be asleep. During this time, toxins are released from the body and fresh new blood is made. If you find yourself waking during this time, you could have a fatty or overloaded liver and sluggish detoxification pathways.

If you find yourself waking between 1-3am, then your liver could benefit from a really good Spring Clean!

You could go it alone.

No doubt about it! I think most people who are interested in being healthier have looked into, or tried, a fantastic sounding Detox Kit at the shops.

I’m sure that most people will get some benefit from this, as it will usually involve some big diet changes through the process. You may even lose a few kilo’s doing it and feel more energetic as well.

But have you tried this, just to find that shortly after the detox that your symptoms and weight just bounce back on?

If you have, then you are possibly dealing with some deeper toxicities that need a more individualistic plan using a functional medicine approach.

The WORST Toxins EXPOSED!

Some toxins are very dangerous. The body has ways to deal with these toxins. It either eliminates them, or it stores them in the tissues of the body.

Stored toxins such as mercury, lead, aluminum, cadmium, antimony, copper excess, bromide, fluoride, and arsenic result in blockades in the tissues. If you have a toxic load stored in the body, nutrients have a real hard time getting into the tissues. Some stored metals are the cause of autoimmune diseases, such as Hashimoto’s, arthritis and Fibromyalgia. To allow resolution and healing of any illness, the root cause must be identified.

Where do these toxins come from?

Sadly, we are exposed to these constantly in our modern world. Air pollution, smoke in any form, our food, products that we use on our skin, paint on the walls, fabric on our couches and in our cars…. the list is literally endless! There are over 130 million chemicals registered for use now on our planet – a staggering and very scary fact!

It is true that detoxification can be harmful when approached incorrectly, you don’t want more toxins liberated than your eliminatory organs can process. To safely detoxify, work with an expert. Give us call and book your next appointment now!
