• • Methylcobalamin or Active Vitamin B12

  • Vitamin B12 is essential for your body’s functioning. Low levels of B12 can lead to depression, irritability and fatigue. It is also a major player in the methylation cycle (cellular detox, immune and nervous system regulation) and can affect the immune system, hormonal system (including thyroid) nervous system and detox pathways.

  • Vitamin D

  • Vitamin D is a fat-soluble vitamin produced after your skin has been exposed to the sun. It is a hormone precursor and is critical for healthy hormonal and immune systems, metabolic processes and DNA repair. A Vitamin D deficiency has been linked with hormonal imbalance, mood disorders, auto-immune dysfunction, increased cardiovascular risk and recurrent infections.

  • Serum Folate

  • Serum folate is an important component for the functioning of red and white blood cells and is necessary to prevent build-up of homocysteine. Low levels of folate can result in fatigue, muscle weakness and mouth ulcers. Long term deficiency can increase your risk of heart disease and cancer and decrease fertility.

  • 5MTHF

  • 5MTHF is the active form of folate. The active form of folate. Lowered levels can indicate a genetic mutation in the 5 MTHFR gene or poor intake. Low levels lead to methylation issues and are implicated in dysfunction of the immune system, hormonal system (including thyroid) nervous system and detox pathways.

  • Iron Studies

This includes:

• • Ferritin: is the major Iron storage protein in the body. It is used to indirectly measure Iron levels. This is more effective than looking to iron levels as in most cases ferritin levels will drop before serum iron, anaemia or RBC morphology occurs. The body will do whatever it takes to keep serum iron at an optimal level so this makes ferritin the most sensitive test to detect iron deficiency. Increased ferritin levels can indicate inflammation, liver dysfunction and oxidative stress.
  • Transferrin: is a protein which binds and transports Iron around your blood. An irregularity in your levels indicates impaired cellular energy and metabolism functioning, which is why it’s important to look at all the iron, nutrient and hormone levels at the same time to see the best course of action.

• You are required to fast for 10-12 hours before your blood draw. A non-fasting blood draw may affect results.

• Medication has the potential to affect results. Please check with your practitioner before your blood draw about the potential effects your medication may have.
